The Principal Designer (BR) is responsible for planning, managing and monitoring the design stage by:

  • Issuing a conformity statement for the project stating that the building complies with all applicable building regulations.
  • Providing their proof of competence to the Client prior to appointment.
  • Conducting a full plan check to ensure the building complies with all applicable building regulations.
  • Establishing change control protocols for the construction stage and assisting in managing the change control log throughout the construction stage.
  • Communicating pertinent information with PC BR.

Although there is a designated PD under both the CDM regulations and BR their roles and responsibilities differ greatly. The PD BR is focused wholly on meeting compliance with the applicable Building Regulations whereas the PD CDM is aimed at the health and safety compliance under the CDM regulations, health and safety at work act, temporary works to name but a few.
