Project Background
Atlantic House is Thames Valley Police’s new Reading police station, developed to replace and consolidate operations previously based at the ageing Castle Street facility. The project involved the refurbishment and fit-out of more than 37,000 sq ft of office accommodation across three floors of Atlantic House, creating a modern, efficient and sustainable workplace designed to support contemporary policing requirements.
The scheme transformed an existing commercial building into a purpose-built operational police facility, providing improved working environments, enhanced staff welfare facilities, upgraded building services, and flexible spaces that support collaboration and service delivery. Sustainability was a key driver, with the development targeting a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating and reducing the environmental impact of the building
The relocation to Atlantic House forms part of Thames Valley Police’s wider estate modernisation programme, enabling the force to operate from a more cost-effective, resilient, and future-ready facility while continuing to deliver essential policing services across the Reading area.
The Challenge
The brief was to repurpose three floors of office space, providing TVP with a facility that delivers the operational requirements for the area. Completion of the project would allow TVP to consolidate its operations, and transition from its former premises.
