Royal Veterinary College: Hobday Building

The extensive internal and external remodelling and refurbishment of the Hobday Building at the Royal Veterinary College campus in Camden, London. This major refurbishment upgraded and modernised the college’s teaching and communal facilities, which dated back to the 1930’s, to meet the current and future demand for student places and to provide a modern state-of-the-art facility to rival international veterinary college.

City College, STEM Building

The design and construction of a new Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) building, along with remodelling and refurbishment of the existing adjacent hall to create a performing arts faculty with associated external works. The project consisted of a 5 storey concrete frame new build with steel frame and atrium.

UWE Glenside Laundry Building Conversion

The conversion of a former Laundry Building in to a new Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre for the University of the West of England, Bristol.
The completed facility will provide the University with Optometry, Rehabilitation, Practical Skills Teaching Paramedics, changing and shower facilities and CPD Spaces with storage and plantrooms within a Basement that has ground floor level access.
Located on the University’s Glenside Campus, in Bristol, the building works were carried out within the live education and residential environment.

University College London Institute of Education: 20 Bedford Way

The project delivered the first phase of an overall masterplan to refurbish and extend the Grade 2* listed building over the next ten years. With teaching space at a premium the building had to be maintained in full operation at all times. The Phase 1 works comprised alteration and refurbishment of existing underutilised space to create 3152 sqm of teaching, study and breakout spaces. Key features and challenges included asbestos removal works, maintaining live services to the existing teaching space whilst renewing services to the Phase 1 area, significant structural alterations including incorporating a new lift shaft. All works had to be undertaken within imposed restrictions for noise, dust and vibration.

National College for Nuclear

The multi-award winning National College for Nuclear (NCfN) is a flagship nuclear training centre offering classrooms, simulators and practical training facilities. The innovative NCfN is transforming teaching in this sector to meet the demands of this growing industry. The state-of-the-art educational spaces include virtual reality (VR) and reactor simulator suites, computer labs, training classrooms and workshops; and the campus offers staff facilities, a gymnasium, social area and changing amenities.

Humanities Building

The original site comprises an existing single-storey building and external courtyard space, located behind the two main Grade ΙΙ listed villas. This adjacency to existing buildings was immediately identified during the pre-construction phase as a key area of design risk, and early works involved re-evaluation of the basement perimeter, to increase the area between existing buildings and the boundary, whilst maximising the footprint to accommodate a lecture theatre, cinema, and plant room.
